John Austin –
Great way to find out what scents you like the best then order more from there. If I have to say a negative about the oils/butter that the scent doesn’t last long, maybe 1-2 hours.
Kevin Ryan –
Texture/Feel.
The oil soaks in fast and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy. Love how it is dialed in, and it certainly has to do with the fantastic ingredients.
Now, on to the scents:
Core Scents
Bard
– Syrupy/molasses and coffee. It smells a bit cloying in the bottle, but maybe it is less so in the beard? I would tone down the maple sweetness and add a note of something floral/woody, perhaps. 6/10
Barbarian
– Tangy citrus; orange and grapefruit. Forward like a juicy IPA. 7.5/10
Cleric
– Minty and potent with a little stone fruit. I enjoyed this more than I anticipated, but the mix of the two seems to clash a bit. This might be balanced out by a less powerful, zesty addition, like amber, subtle incense, or even a touch of frankincense. 6.5/10
Druid
– The most prominent note is the juicy red berries. I feel like it reminds me of red zebra stripe gum, but I love it. The woodsy note could be enhanced to balance it better, but it’s probably still my favorite of the core scents. 9/10
Fighter
– Peaty, smoky scotch with a faint metallic tang. Very potent in the bottle. I can see why people love it, though I would be very sparing in the application myself. 7.5/10
Paladin
– Smells like Layrite beard products; subtle and slightly sweet but evokes a dapper barbershop. 8/10
Ranger
– Leather, musk, woody (teak?), and rain. Smelled much better after I remembered to give it a good shake! 8/10
Rogue
– Vetiver and musky but not too strong. This is a well-balanced, debonair scent. 9/10
Warlock
– Cherries and dark chocolate. The chocolate is a bit much for me with something as rich as the cherry. 4.5/10
Wizard
– VERY potent, to the point of being a bit jarring. I get a lot of green herbs and not much tobacco depth, which I think could help balance it if more apparent. 3/10
Collaboration Scents
Commander
– Hard to place this one; I liken it to a spa, massage parlor, or yoga studio. It’s not my personal favorite, but it’s well-balanced and does what it’s supposed to. 7/10
Seasonal Scents
Autumn Equinox
– Roasty, Pumpkin Spice coffee. Very well done. I love it, but I’d bet it’s divisive. Would love a note of wood or something here to balance, but it’s definitely a fully realized concept. 8/10
Spring Equinox
– VERY rosy. A bit too floral for me, and may benefit from the addition of something grassy, or a rain-like vetiver note. 3/10
Winter Solstice
– Mint with a bit of red berry, perhaps, and a lingering note of pine. This is a fantastic scent I’d wear year-round. 9.5/10
