a Tabletop Beard Interview
Hello, Balbo Garibaldi here!
It’s been a while. Hope you all are well. Today, I had a chance to sit down with one of the Tabletop Beard brothers and ask him about his favorite holiday: Halloween.

Balbo: Good evening, Shane. How are you? I know you’ve been busy brewing new beard care products for Tabletop Beard. Thank you for taking the time.
Shane: I’m good, thanks, Balbo.
Balbo: I heard you like Halloween.
Shane: Yes, it’s actually my favorite holiday. I’ve always been interested in horror and the supernatural; even growing up, I loved all the spooky decorations and costumes. Plus, Autumn is my favorite season; it’s all just so comforting.
Balbo: What do you normally do on Halloween? Do you have a tradition?
Shane: We always go to the pumpkin patch with the kids, carve jack-o’-lanterns as a family, make Halloween cookies, and take the kids trick-or-treating.
Balbo: That’s great. All Autumn activities are fun. Who doesn’t like pumpkins and pumpkin patches?
Balbo: Hey Shane, do you decorate the house during Halloween?
Shane: Yes, mostly inside the house. We live in the country, so we don’t do too much outdoor decorating, but we painted our house black a few years ago, so it’s kind of in spirit all year round.
Balbo: Oh, black houses do look very stark with white trim. Love the contrast. Very moody. And they do not normally attract dragons. Ha! What are your favorite Halloween decorations?
Shane: Skeletons. They’ve been my favorite since I was a kid. I also really like vintage 50s and 60s decorations.
Balbo: Agreed! Skeletons make great decorations. I’d much rather see one posed with a scarf and mug of ale than threatening me with a battleaxe. Shane, the stories I could tell you!
Shane: I bet.
Balbo: So, tell me your favorite Halloween memory from when you were a kid. Then conversely, as an adult?
Shane: As a kid, it was my mom making me a knight costume out of cardboard and tinfoil; I felt so cool. As an adult, my wedding! My wife and I got married on Halloween in 2011.
Balbo: A Halloween wedding! That must have been fun! I bet you had the band play “Michael Jackson’s Thriller.”
Balbo: Do you have big plans this year?
Shane: We’ve already gone to the pumpkin patch. This month is a lot busier for us than normal, so we’re trying to be intentional about hitting all our normal traditions. Kids already have their costumes, and we’re going to go to a haunted maze next weekend.

Balbo: This time of year, has some great movies. Do you have a favorite movie to watch on Halloween?
Shane: That’s tough to pick a favorite; The Nightmare Before Christmas and IT are top choices for sure.
Balbo: Will you dress up this year? What will your costume be? Please don’t say a killer clown.
Shane: No. No, this will be the first year in a long time that my wife and I aren’t dressing up. Unfortunate, but that’s life!
Balbo: It happens. There was this one celebration, a few years ago, that I was planning on wearing this one pair of leather pants that were custom-made for me as a gift from… well, I guess the from doesn’t matter… but unfortunately, old Balo put on a few, and the pants no longer fit. HA!
You know, there are a lot of monsters out there. Some of them are even undead! Whoa, you gotta watch out for those Necromancers! Ew, gave me the chills just then. Anyway, I have an important question for you. You’re being stalked by an 80s horror film slasher. Which would you prefer, and why?
Shane: Hmm… Probably Michael Myers. I’m relatively fast, so as long as I can keep running, I’ve got a chance!
Balbo: Good answer, Shane. Let’s hope you never have to test that theory.
If you are Halloweeniacs like we are, we’d love to hear what your favorite costume was growing up. Feel free to comment or send us an email sometime.
Happy Halloween to all! Oh, and don’t forget to check out last year’s post about Best Halloween Costumes for Bearded Men!
